RSL Soapbox is now Wasatch Soccer Sentinel
The future is now. Plus, Pablo Mastroeni on roster priorities.
After an excruciatingly long period of uncertainty (five days!), yesterday, we made a major announcement about the future of RSL Soapbox. We’re now officially Wasatch Soccer Sentinel, and our new site is officially live.
We’re really pleased with this announcement, and I’d like to also lightly announce that we intend to continue to use this newsletter to give you updates about Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals and Real Monarchs.
We’ll shape out what this newsletter looks like over the coming weeks and months, but for now, we’ll aim to provide extended coverage of what we’re already talking about. We’ll actually start with the first one … now.
Following from Pablo Mastroeni on RSL’s forward corps:
RSL coach Pablo Mastroeni also spoke about his priorities with the roster.
There's a sense of urgency in the group. We have a lot of young players in from college, a few players that haven't joined the team yet, and still looking to possibly bring in one or two others.
The important thing for me is to always focus and put all of my energy, along with the staff, into the players we currently have. Our target right now is the first game, and everything we're doing now is looking forward to that first game in Vancouver. Although you can't win the tournament in the first game of the season, you can definitely put yourself in an unfavorable position.
…
At the moment, we don't have a signed back-up left back, we're looking for some depth in the center of defense with a bit of experience, and obviously (to) fill in the gap that was left when Sergio was gone. So those are obvious areas that we feel could bolster the group and provide some good depth and competition in those pieces. I think those are the areas that we need to fill.
